In 1945 as G.I.s began to return home from overseas a large housing boom was created. Fueled by the G.I. Bill of Rights, veterans where encouraged to buy homes and invest in higher education. This boom to build houses created a massive opportunity for those who worked in the skilled trades and Alfred Mosier was one of those workers. In 1948 Alfred went into business for himself and started Al Mosier Concrete. At the time his company was comprised of two crews, one focused on block and foundation work and the other on concrete flatwork. There was no shortage of work and Alfred's company continued to grow.

In 1963 Al's youngest son Bill was introduced to the family business at the tender age of 14. Alfred believed that success was the result of hard work from the bottom up, and the bottom is exactly where Bill started. Throughout high school and in the summers that followed Bill continued to work and hone his skill as a mason and businessman. Bill even worked while attending the University of River Falls, commuting back and forth to help out his dad's company.

Realizing Bill's importance to the company Alfred offered his son a partnership in the company in the summer of 1968. This is when the name changed and Al Mosier Concrete officially became Midwest Concrete Driveway Co. Bill continued to work as the companies preferred concrete finisher but also assumed the role of sales coordinator. The two continued to work side by side until 1987 when Bill bought the company from his dad. Alfred would officially retire in the summer of 1993, but like a true cement mason he would "unexpectedly" show up ready to work most mornings.
